Word of Greg is a chat site run by LatentEdge. It has no accounts, no login, and nothing to buy. This page describes what the site does today, not what it might do later.

1. What stays on your device

The name you type at the front door is written to your browser’s local storage and is never sent to our server. The same store holds your conversation so far, your message count, whether you have passed the email form, your daily throttle timestamp, your return streak, and your light or dark theme choice.

This is browser storage, not cookies. The site sets no cookies of its own. Clearing site data for wordofgreg.com in your browser erases all of it, and we hold no copy of any of it.

2. What reaches our server

Three things, and nothing else.

• Your chat messages. Each message you send is posted to our worker and relayed to xAI, the company that runs the model answering as Greg. We do not store the text of your conversation. Our database records only that a message happened, as a number in a counter.
• Your email address, if you give it. After your fifth message a form asks for a name and an email address. If you complete it, that name and that address are stored in our database. Nothing is emailed to you today, and there is no password and no account behind it. Declining the form ends the conversation at five messages and stores nothing.
• Your IP address, for counting and for request limits. Section 3 says exactly how.

3. What we do with your IP address

Two separate things, stored two different ways.

• The Greg counter. To count how many distinct people have spoken to Greg today and in total, we take a SHA-256 hash of your address mixed with a secret value we hold, and store that hash with the day. The address itself is not stored for this, and the hash is not reversible.
• The request limit. To stop one machine spending the whole model budget, we count requests per address over a rolling 24 hours. That counter’s key does contain the raw address, together with a count and an expiry time. The row is deleted once its window has passed.

4. Where your messages go

Greg’s replies are generated by xAI. Your message, and the earlier messages of the same conversation that your browser sends with it, are transmitted to xAI’s API for that purpose. What xAI does with them is governed by xAI’s own terms and privacy policy, not by this one.

So do not type anything into Greg that you would not hand to a third-party AI provider: no passwords, no account numbers, no medical or financial details, nothing you need to keep private.

5. What you choose to publish

If you press share on one of Greg’s replies, the text of your question and the text of that reply are stored in our database with a random link id and a timestamp, and anyone holding the link can read them. Nothing about you goes with it: not the name you typed, not your address, not the counter hash.

If you then offer that reply to the Wall of Words, it becomes visible on the public wall only after the site owner approves it. Both steps are yours to take, and an ordinary conversation publishes nothing. A shared link is meant to keep working, so shared rows are not deleted on a schedule.

6. Hosting

The site runs on Cloudflare: Pages serves this page, a Worker serves the API, and D1 holds the database. Cloudflare handles the connection itself, your IP address included, in order to serve and protect the site, under its own terms. Because that network is global, the information described here may be processed in countries other than your own.

7. What we do not do

We set no advertising or tracking cookies. We run no third-party trackers that follow you to other sites. We do not sell, rent, or trade anything described on this page. There are no accounts here, so nothing is logged in to and no browsing profile is attached to your email address.

8. How long things are kept

• Email signups: until you ask us to remove yours.
• Counter hashes: kept, because an all-time count of distinct people is the point of them.
• Request-limit rows: under 24 hours.
• Shared replies: kept, because the link is meant to keep resolving.
• Anything in your browser: until you clear it.

9. Asking us to remove something

There is no delete button on this site, because there is no account to sign in to and no way for the site to know which row is yours. Email support@wordofgreg.com and we will remove your address from the signup table, or take down a reply you shared, and tell you when it is done. For a shared reply, send the link.

A counter hash records only that somebody arrived on a given day. We can find one only if you tell us the address you used, and we will remove it if you ask.

10. Children

Word of Greg is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. The only personal information the site can collect is the name and address typed into that one form. If a child has entered one, email support@wordofgreg.com and we will delete it.

11. Changes

If what the site does changes, this page and the date at the top of it change with it. There is no mailing list to announce it on.
